How to upload Metamod plugins to your Counter-Strike 2 server

Some Counter-Strike 2 plugins are not CounterStrikeSharp or SwiftlyS2 plugins, but native Metamod plugins — for example MultiAddonManager, CS2Fixes, ServerListPlayersFix, CleanerCS2 and many anticheats. In this guide we show you how to install, check and disable them.

IMPORTANT

MetaMod:Source must be enabled in SETTINGS > Variables. See Keeping Metamod, CounterStrikeSharp and SwiftlyS2 up to date.

How a Metamod plugin looks

A Metamod plugin usually comes as an archive with this structure:

addons/
├── metamod/
│ └── pluginname.vdf ← tells Metamod to load the plugin
└── pluginname/
└── bin/
└── pluginname.so ← the plugin itself (Linux)
cfg/
└── pluginname/
└── pluginname.cfg ← config (not every plugin has one)

The .vdf file is what makes Metamod load the plugin. Without it the plugin is not loaded, even if its files are on the server.

TIP

Always download the Linux version of the plugin. If there are several Linux builds (for example steamrt3 and steamrt4), use steamrt3. Files ending in .dll are for Windows and will not work.

How to install a Metamod plugin

Step 1) Download the latest release of the plugin and extract the archive on your computer.

Step 2) Go to your console and stop your server using the "STOP" button.

Step 3) Go to "FILE MANAGER" and navigate to game > csgo.

Step 4) Upload the files so that the folders from the archive match the folders on the server — addons into game > csgo > addons and cfg into game > csgo > cfg. For bigger plugins it is easier to use SFTP.

ATTENTION

If you update a plugin, don't upload the config file from the archive over your existing one — you will lose your settings. Upload only the addons folder.

Step 5) Start your server.

How to check that the plugin is loaded

Type this command in the console:

meta list

You will see a numbered list of all loaded Metamod plugins with their names and versions.

If your plugin is missing or shows <ERROR>, it was not loaded. The most common reasons are a wrong folder, a Windows build, or a plugin that is not updated for the latest CS2 version.

How to disable a Metamod plugin

Step 1) Stop your server.

Step 2) In the File Manager go to game > csgo > addons > metamod and move the plugin's .vdf file to another folder, for example game > csgo > addons > disabled.

Step 3) Start your server. The plugin's files stay on the server, but it is no longer loaded. To enable it again, move the .vdf file back.
